Jay Michaelis has a list of accomplishments and experience to impress even the harshest of drum cri7cs. Jay has been behind the drum kit since he was a mere 6 years old and has come quite a long way to become the winner of Drum Magazine's "New Blood" Contest and voted "Best Unsung Drummer" by Bam Magazine. To date Jay has performed in over 35 states as well as Canada. He has recorded a single with Slash and played with the likes of System of a Down, John 5, Brad Gillis, Deen Castronovo, Dokken, Ace Frehley, Incubus, Papa Roach, Sevendust and Lars and MaT from Rancid. He has also recorded with legendary producers, Mike Clink and Sylvia Massy.
For the last twenty years Jay has taught a roster of 60 students all drum styles with a concentra7on on independence and groove study as well as a strong emphasis on nota7on and the use of rudiments on the drum set. Jay's students range in age, skill, and experience from children the age of 5 to a music professor at Stanford University. Some of Jay’s students have gone on to play with Pearl Jam, perform at Lollapalooza and BoTlerock as well as join The Concord Blue Devils. He offers styles such as La7n, Rock, Jazz, Metal, Punk, Afro-Cuban and Marching. He is also backed professionally being endorsed by five drum companies: Paiste, Aquarian, Pro-Mark, DW, and Thumper Custom Drums.
Jay is the owner of "Green Room Music Center” offering lessons, rock camp, rehearsal spaces and gear in Pacifica, CA.
